Calling all film buffs, well honestly, anyone who loves movies...you need to check out this incredible museum! I’ve been twice now, and both visits felt completely different in the best way. They rotate exhibits and bring in new pieces, so it never feels like you’re seeing the same thing twice. There’s always something new to take in, whether it’s a full exhibit or a smaller piece you didn’t catch before. It spans about five floors and covers everything from classic to modern films. You can move through it quickly, but it’s waaaay better when you take your time. Theres a lot of history here. My last visit I happened to be there while the Jaws exhibit was running, and it was unreal. They do these focused exhibits around specific films or filmmakers, and it really adds another layer to the experience. There’s also a great overlook of Hollywood up top, plus food and a gift shop on the ground floor, so it’s easy to spend a full day here without getting bored. This is one of those places I’ll keep coming back to anytime I’m in the area.
The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is an absolute must-visit for movie lovers. From the moment you walk in, you’re surrounded by the history, magic, and artistry of film. Seeing original costumes, props, and iconic pieces from classic and modern movies was truly unforgettable. The exhibits are beautifully curated, interactive, and thoughtfully laid out, making it easy to appreciate both the storytelling and the craftsmanship behind filmmaking. I especially loved how the museum celebrates diversity in cinema and honors legends who shaped the industry. The building itself is stunning, and the views from the top are amazing. Whether you’re a lifelong film fan or just curious about movie history, this museum is well worth the visit. I can’t wait to go back and explore more!
My friend and I enjoyed the self-paced view of the exhibits. Enjoyed the costumes and objects of moves from my past years. Informative posted write-ups throughout museum. JAWS display was exciting and brought back memories. And the ruby slippers worn by Judy while she was in OZ, made my day. An outstanding day!
such a cool and unique experience! loved it! they offer discounts the last hour and a half if you are not planning to spend that long here. super easy to buy tickets, not really a need to book in advance
Two Besties Travel to LA to fall back in love with movie magic. We left with an appreciation and a love for the artists that pour their hearts and souls into film. From admiring hand written notes on scripts, immersing ourselves in sound, to gawking at costume and prop creation, there was a plethora of behind the scenes secrets to discover. Parking: A parking structure is located around the corner from the actual building, that services multiple museums in the area. For a couple of hours we paid about $23, which felt typical and reasonable for the area. The museum was clean and well cared for. There is a dine-in restaurant available, in addition to a coffee shop for a quick pop in. Plenty of seating can be found throughout the venue. Each exhibit was beautifully curated and easy to navigate. Overall, we are happy with our visit. So much so that we will be returning for the Marilyn Monroe exhibit.
